Hosting your site Free VS. Paid
Filed Under Main Content, Work From Home | Leave a Comment
Good Evening Everyone!
Today’s post deals with the issues of web hosting. If you’re going to have a web site you’re going to need a hosting provider. Your main choice will be to go with paid or free hosting.
When most internet marketers are just starting out, monthly expenses play a large part in how they go about setting up their E-Commerce site. Hosting from an internet hosting service is a recurring expense that many feel they can avoid by choosing a free hosting service.
While there are many free hosting services available, it is NOT in your best interest to choose one. As tempting as it may be to avoid that $25 - $50 dollar a month expense, it’s definitely not the choice you should make.
In a few circumstances it may be unavoidable to go with free hosting to start with. But for the most part paid service is going to be your best bet.
When you are trying to convince someone to part with their hard earned money, trust and credibility are probably the two main points you need to develop with your potential customer. Now most of your free hosting services obviously are not free out of the goodness of their hearts. They are in this to make money, just like everyone else. So if they are not charging you for their service where is the money coming from?
Advertising, first and foremost if a site is offering free hosting service, they are getting at least part of their revenue through selling ad space. And where is that ad space? On your website. It can be in the form of banner ads, pop ups, or a variety of other ways. But somewhere along the way your site will be advertising for the host company or for someone who has paid the host company to run their ads.
Now your main goal here is to make sales and collect the cash, right? So why do you want to advertise on your site for someone else? Especially when you are getting no benefit from it? The only ads that you want on your site are your own affiliate ads, where if someone clicks on that ad you are getting income from the click or from the purchase they make when they get to the advertisers site, or your own ads for your own products.
When someone comes to your site, and it’s a free hosting site, 9 times out of 10 the visitor is going to be able to tell it’s a free hosting deal. Do you really think that person is going to be willing to purchase something from someone who can’t even afford the price of monthly hosting, or going to trust the products you are selling? Probably not.
If you absolutely have NO money to start with I suppose a free site is better than no site, but do yourself a favor, as soon as you can, make the switch to paid hosting. Your credibility and integrity will improve by leaps and bounds over the free hosted site.
Another disadvantage to free hosting is the lack of good support as well as all the bells and whistles that usually do NOT come with a free hosting package. So if you absolutely have to go with free hosting to start out with, then do it. You can always upgrade to a paid hosting plan as soon as finances allow it. Remember lack of taking action is the number one reason why many internet marketers don’t get off the ground. Don’t be one of the ones sitting around all day “thinking” about making money online, get off your rear end and do something!

Greetings All!
Todays post is a re-post from my first blog which has long since been regulated to the vast reaches of the internet void. For those not familiar with the story I changed my web hosting and the short version is I lost my old blog and all it’s posts….alas.
Anyway I have been trying to devise a way to easily replace the posts and have resigned myself to the fact that I will just have to re-post them manually, oh the joy of it all. Anyway this post is from an article I wrote which deals with the question that seems to be on everybodys brain pan… how the heck can I make money online. So without further ado read on….
This article delves into the various ways to make money online. When I first started surfing around on the net 15 or so odd years ago I had no idea that I could actually make money online. But a few years ago as I read more and more stories about the dot com explosion, and eventual collapse, and heard stories about overnight millionaires and slow but steady millionaires I figured “hey if they can do it, why can’t I”? And so began my quest into making money on the internet. Surprisingly enough I found that there were basically 3 ways to make money online.
1 ) Sell your own stuff
2 )Sell other peoples stuff
3 )Sell ads on your site
Now obviously there are many variations on the above 3 items…but those are basically the main ways to make money online. So if you break those 3 things down you come up with the following options.
1 ) Sell your own stuff.
This can be accomplished in quite a few ways. Ebay is one way, cleaning out your attic or garage and putting your stuff up for sale. Purchasing discount or closeout items and selling them on Ebay. Creating your own product, crafts, artwork, info products, the latest greatest mousetrap, etc., and then selling it on Ebay. You can sell almost anything on Ebay, ( I believe body parts are out of the question in case anyone’s thinking about selling their extra kidney or anything like that). 8 ) But Ebay is only one avenue to sell your stuff.
You can put up a website of your own, or utilize something like Ebay stores or Paypal Shops, or any of a number of other storefront options available on the web for setting up shop and selling your stuff.
The main benefit to this option is you pretty much get to keep all the profits for yourself, (unless you are offering affiliate partners a share of the profits), so all the money make you get to keep yourself. And you have complete control of the product you are selling, no worries about whether or not the product is worthwhile or a some junk someone is trying to pawn off on unsuspecting customers.
The main drawback to this is more work. You have to create, buy, or find whatever it is you are going to sell. You have to ship it or make it available for download, or however it is you are going to get your stuff to the buyer. You have to set up a website or pay someone to create your site if you are selling from your own website. You have to deal with customer support, refunds, etc. So in a nutshell more work…but more $$$.
2) Sell other peoples stuff.
This is probably one of the easiest ways to make money online. You can become an affiliate marketer, you advertise somebody’s product for them, direct customers to their site, the customer purchases said product, and you get paid a commission from the seller. You don’t have to deal with product development, customer complaints, payment processing, etc. All you do is drive traffic to the vendors site and collect your share of the money when they buy.
This is probably the easiest way for newcomers to start out making money online. When you are first starting out you usually don’t have a website, or a list to promote and sell to, or a product, or anything actually except a desire to figure out how the heck to make money online! So affiliate marketing is usually a good choice to “get your feet wet” so to speak and start generating an income online.
3) Sell other peoples ads on your site.
This is probably one of the hardest ways to make money online in my opinion. At least initially. To be able to sell ad space on your own site you are going to need a pretty large traffic count coming to your site to be able to charge any kind of money for ad space. You are going to be hard pressed to convince anyone to pay any kind of real money to advertise on your website if you don’t have a few thousand people dropping by your site on a regular basis.
Ads and affiliate marketing are 2 ways to generate money on your blog, and if you can generate enough interest on a topic on your blog you could start getting a good base of traffic coming to your blog. But even with a good topic it’s going take a while to generate enough traffic to start selling ad space on your blog.
So there you have it. Now you just have to decide which way you want to go. Get out there and do some research into the different venues and see which one appeals to you. Ideally you would eventually branch out into all 3 ways. Remember multiple streams of income is the way to go. You don’t want to rely on just one thing if you are looking to replace your daily 9-5 grind with an income from the internet.
So there you have it. I will try and post at least 3 or 4 times a week till I get all my previous posts back up here. In the meantime feel free to drop by my site and sign up for my Home Business Tips Newsletter. It’s free and I offer free one on one email support for all my subscribers. Hello!

I don’t normally promote product or programs here on my blog but I have to let you know about this one. Overnight Affiliate Cash . You can check out my Squidoo page for my review of Overnight Affiliate Cash by following this link OAC Review on Squidoo .
I met the creator, Adeel Chowdhry, a few months ago when I picked up his product Google Ads Free - The Video Version. I was impressed with his “outside the box” thinking. I began to converse with Adeel after my second purchase from him of his next product Super Quick Video Membership . Through the link above Adeel offers my readers a special $1 trial of this product.
So through my friendship with Adeel he offered me the chance to purchase his newest product
Overnight Affiliate Cash before his launch date of July 15th, 2008. I was extremely excited to get my hands on this as I have never been a big fan of Affiliate Marketing. I was always a firm believer in the theory that if you really want to make it in online marketing you need to concentrate on your own products.
But through my previous purchases from Adeel I realized that this guy knows his stuff and if anyone could show me a tried and true way to make the big bucks with Affiliate Marketing, he could. Adeel did not let me down. I was blown away when I got a hold of Overnight Affiliate Cash .
Adeel takes you through his successes and mistakes in his quest to figure out the world of affiliate marketing and leaves no stone unturned. I especially loved his “sneaky leech technique” he describes in the program for getting highly targeted specific traffic. This is one program I can recommend with confidence, you won’t be disappointed with your purchase. So head on over to my Overnight Affiliate Cash sales page and grab your copy today.
Mike
P.S. Adeel has thrown in a couple of great bonuses that complement Overnight Affiliate Cash nicely and I have added a killer bonus of my own so get going and grab your copy of Overnight Affiliate Cash now!
Good Evening Everybody!
Many of you who are familiar with my other articles will notice this is a bit off the regular path for me as I usually write articles dealing with home based businesses and setting up websites. The reason for this article on computer maintenance is this. If you are doing Internet Marketing of any type then you are going to be using a computer. And if your computer breaks down, then your business breaks down along with it. So with that in mind, todays article deals with keeping your computer up and running smooth and trouble free. Many people use a few of the methods listed below, but if you use all of them regularly you will go a long way towards keeping your computer up and running like it was meant to.
1 ) Anti-Virus Software: One of the most important ways to keep your computer happy is good anti-virus software. There are way to many viruses out there today. You can find many free anti-virus programs online with a little research. One I recommend is AVG Free Version. AVG will auto update it’s definition file as long as your computer is online. AVG will also run virus checks in the background, with a minimal effect on you system resources. You can download it from the Grisoft Web site here:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5.
2 ) Anti-Spyware Software: Anti-Spyware is also available for free online. Two I recommend are Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. Spyware and malware can slow down your computer tremendously as well as popping up unwanted ads all over your desktop, even when you are not online. These 2 free programs, while they work very well, have one drawback in my opinion. Auto updates are not available. Which means it’s up to you to remember to check for updates on a regular basis. Both programs do have a “check for updates” option right on their main page. You should have them check for updates at least once a week. Spybot and AdAware can be downloaded here:
Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
AdAware: http://www.lavasoft.de/ms/ad_aware_free.php
3 ) Disk Cleanup: The disk clean tool up will help you to keep uneeded or no longer used files off your computer. You will have a gradual build up of uneeded files over a period of time in your temp folder, cookies folder from internet surfing, and various other places on your computer. You can access the Disk Clean up tool in your accessories folder under system tools. Run this once at least once a month.
4 ) Windows Update: Make sure your Windows Update program is set to check periodically for updates for you operating system and the drivers and such for your other installed programs. There are new updates made available on a regular basis from Windows. Many of these will fix security problems and other issues pertaining to you computer.
5 ) Air Flow: Many people try and hide their computer tower away under a desk or in a cabinet, etc. Although the tower may not be the most visually appealing item in the room, you should try and provide room for good air flow space around it. Heat is a major contributor to many computer problems. Hiding it away under a desk or in a closed space just compounds the problem. If you must keep it tucked away somewhere consider putting a small fan by the tower to help the air circulation.
6 ) Reboot: Memory problems can slow your computer down drastically. As programs are opened on your computer they request a portion of your installed RAM, (random access memory). Now ideally when you shut a program down it should release that RAM to be available for other programs. Unfortunately that doesn’t always happen. As a result over the course of the day as you open and close various programs your available RAM dwindles. By doing a reboot or restart periodically throughout the day you will force the computer to release RAM that was still being held for programs that were no longer open. If you use many programs over a few hours time frame it’s a good idea to go grab a coffee or coke and tell your computer to reboot while you are doing that. You should notice a change in speed and accessing programs and internet surfing when you reboot.
7 ) Disk Defragmenter: This is another program available in your accessories/system tools folder. Imagine your hard drive is like a file cabinet. As you create and edit files you just toss them in the file cabinet. Then when you go back to your file cabinet to find a particluar file you have to sort through all the files piled up in the file cabinet. So you take everything out of the file cabinet and sort and organize it in an easy to find system and put it all back in. This is basically of what happens when you run Disk Defragmenter. There are also many free and pay programs out there that work quite well. I use a program from a company called AusLogic which is a free disk defragmenter program that works quite well. You can download AusLogic Disk Defragmenter here:
AusLogic Disk Defrag: http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/download
By following the above maintenance suggestions your computer should remain in tip top shape for a long time. Remember that it’s up to you to implement these suggestions and keep up with updates and actually using the programs for them to keep your computer, ( and you), happy and healthy!
Well that’s all for tonight, my daughter is having a pool party / sleepover and I have to go make sure they are not all drowning or getting ready to burn the house down with the bonfire. Have a good night everybody. Cya next time!
